Wheaton Warrenville South student dies in DUI crash

A man charged with killing a high school student in a drunk driving accident is in jail on $1 million bond.

On Thursday night, Karlos Leath, 31, was driving an SUV in southbound on Saffner Road near Mack Road in unincorporated Wheaton when it veered off the road and rolled over.

Leath’s 18-year-old passenger, Stephanie Pickett, was taken to Central DuPage Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

School District 200 issued a statement, saying Pickett was an outgoing, friendly and kind-hearted student.

Police charged Leath with two counts of DUI, causing a death.
