Black ice causes multiple crashes on I-290

Black ice may be to blame for multiple crashes on the Eisenhower expressway. Close to 20 cars crashed on toll roads, police said.

One woman is lucky she wasn’t injured, after she lost control of her car early Saturday morning. It happened in the westbound lane of Interstate 290, in Addison. The car skidded out, and was almost hit by a semi-truck.

According to the Chicago Tribune, a more serious crash happened in the same area when a 61-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was taken to Alexian Brothers Hospital. The 33-year-old driver of the car was also injured, though his wounds were less serious, police said.

Witnesses said several crashes happened due to the cold temperatures. The roads have since been salted and conditions have improved, police said.

Why weren't the salt trucks out there all the time?

Was in one of the cars. Roads were hard to walk on let alone drive. They salted as we were standing next to our mangled cars

What time did these accidents occur? It is not mentioned in the reports.
