Chicago Marathon director: ‘We’ll keep going’

The acts of terror at the Boston Marathon won’t stop the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in its tracks.

The Chicago Marathon is scheduled for October 13th, and runner Wendy Jaehn, of the Chicago Area Runners Association, says marathons are in her DNA.

“We’re runners, especially marathon runners. You train almost 18 weeks to run a marathon. You dedicate your life. It’s a lot of sacrifice. You can’t stop being who you are,” Jaehn said.

Jaehn competed in the Boston Marathon along with several other runners from the Chicago area. She crossed the finish line about an hour before the blasts. It appears all runners from Chicagoland are safe.

“The marathon is a celebration of humanity. It’s a celebration of human spirit. It’s a celebration of dedication, sacrifice. We’ll keep going,” said Bank of America Chicago Marathon Executive Director Carey Pinkowski.
