The owner was able to fight off the robbers with a baseball bat.
Police say the robbers struck Tuesday evening at a Quizhpe’s Gift and Sport Shop, 2242 N. Western Ave.
One of the thieves pointed a gun at Luis Quizhpe’s brother-in-law before aiming at him and demanding cash.
That’s when Quizhpe fought back with a baseball bat.
The robber fired nine shots, hitting Quizhpe once in the thigh and just missing a major artery.
Quizhpe is now recovering at home.
Cornell Mack, 53, has been charged with attempted murder and armed robbery.
Police say mack was accidentally shot by the second man.
