About 1,000 people are expected to take part in a gun-control rally at the State Capitol in Springfield on Thursday.
The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence organized the event. Governor Quinn is expected to speak to the crowd.
Fr. Michael Pfleger, of St. Sabina Church, and about 100 others boarded buses outside his parish and headed to Springfield.
He wonders why lawmakers in Connecticut reacted so quickly with tough new guns laws in the wake of the shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, but no action has been taken in Illinois.
“… I’m trying to figure out 806 children have died in the last six years in Illinois and why hasn’t Illinois responded? Why is Illinois ignoring the killing of our children?,” questioned Pfleger.
