Gun control rally held in Springfield

About 1,000 people are expected to take part in a gun-control rally at the State Capitol in Springfield on Thursday.

The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence organized the event. Governor Quinn is expected to speak to the crowd.

Fr. Michael Pfleger, of St. Sabina Church, and about 100 others boarded buses outside his parish and headed to Springfield.

He wonders why lawmakers in Connecticut reacted so quickly with tough new guns laws in the wake of the shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, but no action has been taken in Illinois.

“… I’m trying to figure out 806 children have died in the last six years in Illinois and why hasn’t Illinois responded? Why is Illinois ignoring the killing of our children?,” questioned Pfleger.

WGN News Writer C. Hayes published this stroy.

Not too hard to figure out. People in Chicago are not allowed to defend themselves. You have some of the toughest gun laws in the country for law abiding citizens. What do you expect?

Everything could be solved by limiting politicians with two term limits, one in office and the next in prison. That would fix the problem for sure. This works great in Detroit, why not in Chicago?

How many of the 800 plus murders in Chicago were committed with a registered gun ? How do gang banging killers register their guns? Is Father Pfleger going to handle the gangs registering their guns? Or maybe Jesse Jackson…Both would be glad to help out the gangs…because they are "troubled youth" – -

1000 people expected? That was certainly a stretch. It looked more like 150 showed up, unlike 8000 or so that showed up in support of concealed carry on March 6th.

You are 100% right, Freedom of the Press, Freedom to report what the Machine tells them to report. This crap happens all the time, but what do you expect from a bunch who allowed Jacksons' seat to a mayor in another state without a word.

Yeah, where was the news coverage that day?
Looks like there were a few more people who traveled to Springfield that day,
but the media doesn't feel gun advocates make good news I guess.
