911 calls of school bus crash detail shocking scene

911 calls from last week’s school bus crash have been released and detail a shocking scene that filled callers with panic.

It was 8 a.m. last Friday when a school bus and two other vehicles

collided somehow at Route 173 and Kilbourne in suburban Lake County.   The bus was driving  its daily route to a local elementary school.

Young kids ranging in age from kindergarten to 5th grade, ran from a toppled bus near Wadsworth. Nearby, two other vehicles somehow smashed in the wreckage.

18 ambulances and one medical helicopter rushed to the scene.

The 35 kids inside the bus would end up being ok, but the man in the Jeep Wrangler, 62-year-old Philip Smith did not survive.

The Illinois Secretary of State’s office said Monday that the school bus driver involved in Friday’s fatal crash had a pristine driving record, no accidents or citations.

Toxicology tests for all the drivers involved could take weeks to complete.

"The Illinois Secretary of State’s office said Monday that the school bus driver involved in Friday’s fatal crash had a pristine driving record, no accidents or citations." This from tumblin-fumblin Jesse White. Like most people's driving, the driver just hadn't gotten caught yet. School bus drivers should have to take mandatory testing, random if necessary [like they do at companies, [the doctor comes in, taps the victim on the shoulder and hand them a cup, no warning], for blood/alcohol as well as for rules of the road, and driving/stopping courtesy. Some drivers drive like they are special and drive like their the only one on the road.

You are a misinformed citizen United Front. Bus drivers do go through random training. You have continuously bad-mouthed this driver which I am sure you know nothing about. My child was on that bus and I have seen how careful the driver was with those kids!

My children were not on the bus, but attend the school and ride the bus. We have NEVER had anything but amazing drivers in the almost 4 years my children have rode the bus. This man obviously knows nothing about everything. I just wanted to give u an AMEN!!!!!!
