911 calls from last week’s school bus crash have been released and detail a shocking scene that filled callers with panic.
It was 8 a.m. last Friday when a school bus and two other vehicles
collided somehow at Route 173 and Kilbourne in suburban Lake County. The bus was driving its daily route to a local elementary school.
Young kids ranging in age from kindergarten to 5th grade, ran from a toppled bus near Wadsworth. Nearby, two other vehicles somehow smashed in the wreckage.
18 ambulances and one medical helicopter rushed to the scene.
The 35 kids inside the bus would end up being ok, but the man in the Jeep Wrangler, 62-year-old Philip Smith did not survive.
The Illinois Secretary of State’s office said Monday that the school bus driver involved in Friday’s fatal crash had a pristine driving record, no accidents or citations.
Toxicology tests for all the drivers involved could take weeks to complete.
