The Chicago Public Schools are making plans to provide safe routes to school, when dozens of schools are closed this summer.
Parents say thousands of kids will have to travel through hostile gang territory to their new schools.
So CPS is working with the Chicago Police Department to extend the school system’s “Safe Passage” program.
Extra security will be provided on student travel routes.
Once the plan is in place, the school board will start meeting with parents to design a travel route from each affected home.
