Illinois Republican lawmaker supports gay marriage

A Republican lawmaker in Illinois has announced his support for gay marriage.

Rep. Ed Sullivan Jr. of Mundelein is the chairman of the House Republican Campaign Organization. He is the first among party leadership to support gay marriage in Illinois. He says his mother-in-law’s involvement in a same-sex relationship prompted his support.

With House lawmakers returning to Springfield Monday after a two week break, supporters say they are now within a dozen votes of the six needed to pass a measure to legalize gay marriage.

Sullivan says his stance represents a personal and family evolution on the issue. Sullivan says his new stance is all about treating people fairly.

Rep. Ron Sandack of Downers Grove is the only other house republican to support the same-sex marriage bill, which has already passed the State Senate.

Of course! The only time a republican supports gay marriage is when they realize that someone they love or know is gay. It is never because they realized on their own that it is a civil right.

    MY OPINION:
the only reason ANY of these politicians change their minds about anything controversial is if their vote may jeoprodize their political meal ticket….best job in the world – free EVERYTHING!!

IT'S REALLY SAD N DISGUSTING NOT ONE POLITICAN HAVE ANY SHAME THERE'S NOT AN HONEST ONE LEFT IN THE WORLD NOT ONE.AND YOU KNOW WHEN A POLITICAN IS LYING WHEN THEY OPEN THEIR MOUTHS.THEY ARE ALL DISPICABLE BLOODSUCKING LEECHES.IF THEY LEGALIZE GAY MARRIAGE I WILL NEVER EVER VOTE IN A ELECTION EVER AGAIN IM DONE.I BELEIVE N GOD N THE LAWS N VIRTUES THAT HE TEACHES NOT WHAT MAN TEACHES.THEY ALL HAVE TO ANSWER TO GOD IN THE END

Gays living together is NOT a CIVIL issue. Everyone that wants to cry for something wants to say the have a 'CIVIL RIGHT'. Marriage is moral joining of a male / female. Gays, more than the financial benefits want the title "Marriage"… which doesn't apply to their conduct. So what next… the polygamist will start demanding their 'CIVIL RIGHT' to have 10 wives. Then the sheep lovers will start demanding their 'CIVIL RIGHT' to marry their sheep…. Watch society deteriorate to chaos. Gays don't realize they are tearing at moral fiber that keeps a society stable.

The unenlightened churchies (uneducated and poor) are slowly but surely being marginalized out of the Republican party. Religious nutbags are a cancerous growth in the GOP and it's time to remove them.

Since our elected bums need to vote for favors or that a family member is gay, how about a state wide vote and let the residents of this state vote it in or out.

But 1 state did vote about 80 or 90 percent said no to gay marriage, and whoever runs that state said no. Cannot remember what state that was.

the name, same sex marriage, sounds unnatural – so how did we get involved in this immoral subject? = the homosexuals are trying to make sin fair seeming and attempt to force the general population of the u.s. and the rest of the world to accept this sinful behavior as normal. this kind of immorality would be bad for society and especially for the young boys and girls.
