It’s been a cold series figuratively and literally here in Pittsburgh. With temperatures dipping into the low 30s last night, the Cubs could only muster 2 hits in a 3-0 loss after a 3-1 win on Monday.
I agree with JD’s assessment of Edwin Jackson last night. About a B or a B- for his first outing. He was decent, but we’ve seen him be better in the past with other teams. He looked great early, striking out the side in the 1st, but then really had to grind through a 2-run 4th that ultimately decided the game.
Bottom line, though, if your offense can’t score any runs, it magnifies every little thing your starter gives up. Jackson’s ERA for the night was 3.60, so the results were fine in that regard. A little run support from his teammates would certainly help make his outing look better next time out though.
