IL Supreme Court overturns ruling that tossed out E2 convictions

The owners of the E-2 Nightclub could face jail time after all.

The Illinois supreme court overturned a ruling that dismissed guilty verdicts against the owners.

A stampede killed 21 people at the club on South Michigan Ave in 2003.

Owners Dwain Kyles and Calvin Hollins Jr were convicted of indirect criminal contempt for disobeying a court order to close the second floor, and sentenced to two years in prison.

An appeals court threw out the convictions.

Now the high court has reversed that ruling and sent the case back to the appeals court.

THIS CASE SHOULD HAVE NEVER WENT TO THE SUPREME COURT OR EVEN A APPEALS COURT THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG WITH OUR SOCIETY NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE THE BLAME FOR THEIR ACTIONS.CHARGES SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN OVERTURNED THE OWNERS OF THIS CLUB DISOBEYED A CITY ORDER AND A JUDICAL ORDER TO CLOSE DOWN UNTIL CERTAIN THINGS WERE REPAIRED AND REDONE AT THIS CLUB.THERE WAS A BUNCH OF CODE VIOLATIONS BUT INSTED OF FOLLOWING THE LAW THEY DISOBEYED AND OPENED UP ANYWAY AND CAUSED THE DEATH OF MANY PEOPLE.BUT INSTEAD OF ACCEPTING THEIR GUILT AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS THEY WANT TO BLAME THE CITY AND THE POLICE DEPT .REALLY ANOTHER WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY ON A UNECESSARY APPEAL

Amen. My niece's baby's father and a friend of mine was in that club. May they rest in PEACE. That was such a tragedy. The owners should be held accountable for their actions.

The owners of the club paid city inspectors to keep the club open thats why it wasn't closed down. This is Chicago everyone will get a little dirty for some money thats the problem.Everyone is at fault secruity, for spraying pepper spray in a overcrowded place. City of Chicago inspectors for not inforceing violations. Owners of the club for not following the rules and also the dumb patrons that caused the fight inside the club that cause secruity to spray the pepper spray.

I agree with law and order. But, at some point, the patrons of that club should have looked around, noticed that it was wayyy overcrowded, and remembered how violent clubs in that area can be, and asked themselves if it was a good idea to stay there. Overcrowding+being at a club in that part of town that is known for its violence=catastrophe!

I AGREE TOTALLY MY BROTHER FED UP AND FOR JAKE KNOW YOUR FACTS THEVCITY INSPECTORS WERE NOT PAID OFF THEY CALLED FOR POLICE SERVICE ON SEVERAL INSTANCES TO ENFORE AND SHUT THE CLUB DOWN.THE GREEDY OWNERS IGNORED THE INSPECTORSBAND THE LAW AND THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE PLAIN AND SIMPLE.I DON'T GO OUT TO CLUBS NOR PLACES WHERE A LARGE GROUP OF PEOPLE WILL BE LIQURED AND DOPED UP

Exactly. It's called situational awareness. If it looks like there could be trouble, why put yourself into that situation? With the career I have, sometimes I just want to ask people what they were thinking, or what they thought was going to happen?? Common sense is not so common.

All of the above posts are full of truth — – – One thing that wasn't mentioned (I don't think?) is that all of this boils down to GREED! The more people at the club – – the more $$$$….No regard for human life or for doing the RIGHT thing….GREED!
