Man shot after pointing gun at officer in Vernon Hills police station

Police are investigating a shooting inside the Vernon Hills Police Department.

It happened just after midnight Wednesday.

A man walked into the lobby of the police department and said he wanted to file an accident report.

When an officer entered the lobby to meet with him, he pointed a gun at the officer.

The officer drew his gun and fired at the man, hitting him at least once.

The man was taken to the hospital and is listed in fair condition.

This shooting is under investigation.

This is the first police-involved shooting in the history of the Vernon Hills Police Department
