Project Orange Tree took root in the minds of two students at King College Prep, in honor of their friend and classmate Haidiya Pendelton.
Today is the first of four days to begin this non-violence movement.
The energy of high school spirit is evident. Students wore the color orange as a reminder of a problem these students want to face head on: Violence.
Students Victor Taylor and RaSia Khepra are behind the movement, which includes four days of fasting and wearing blaze orange clothes and buttons.
King College Prep Principal Shontae Higginbottom supports the idea saying, “I think it’s a worthwhile opportunity because what it does is it makes adults aware of the plight of our youth and the problems that our youth are having in society, specifically gun violence.”
Haidiya Pendelton’s parents will be launching their own foundation in her honor as well this week.
