Person struck, killed by Rock Island Line

Trains were running 40-70 minutes late on the Rock Island line this morning after a person was struck and killed by a train around Townline Road near southwest suburban New Lenox, officials said. metrarockislandhitsperson

The person was struck by train 402 around 5:45 a.m., Metra officials said. Delays were running up to 80 minutes at the time, and Metra was advising riders to consider taking the Heritage Corridor or Southwest lines.

Inbound trains 404 and 406 were turned back to Joliet. Train 408, scheduled to leave Joliet at 6:29 a.m., has not departed, Metra said on its website around 7 a.m. Compounding the problems, train 612 was not running due to mechanical problems and train 614 was also canceled.

Later inbound trains, Nos. 412, 414, 416, 506 and 616, were all running late, according to the Metra website, and outbound train No. 503 was 30-33 minutes late.
