A man is in critical condition after a police-involved shooting on Chicago’s South Side.
Chicago police detectives say they heard shots fired just after 3 p.m. Friday in the area of 95th and Jeffrey in the city’s Pill Hill neighborhood.
The detectives radioed for assistance and followed as three subjects fled northbound on Jeffery from 95th Street, police said. Police say one subject was taken into custody shortly after while two others continued to flee.
As the detectives continued to pursue one of the subjects, they say they noticed that he was in possession of a weapon. Detectives ordered the offender to drop the weapon. Police say the offender did not comply and instead pointed his firearm in the direction of the officers. That’s when detectives discharged their weapons.
The man shot by police was transported Christ Medical Center, Chicago Fire Department officials say.
Police say a weapon was recovered at the scene.
No police were injured during the incident. A third subject is still being sought at this time.
