*The Sox open with the Royals, the 10th time in the last 11 years they have opened with a division opponent.

*The Sox are 58-54 overall on Opening Day, 26-23 at home. The Sox have won 10 of their last 16 openers.

*Chris Sale is the Sox Opening Day starter, the fifth-youngest in team history at 24, trailing Britt Burns (21), Steve Trout (22), Tommy John (22), and Mark Buehrle (23).

*Paul Konerk0 makes his 13th straight Opening Day start at first base for the Sox,  extending his club record.

*The Sox went only 6-12 vs. the Royals last year.
