127 citations were issued after a large demonstration in the Loop yesterday in which teachers, students, and activists protested massive school closings.
They marched during the evening rush, snarling traffic. The crowd is angry over 54 public schools facing closure because of low enrollment.
The teachers union says it’s a move that will hurt students the most.
Nearly all of the 54 schools are located in poor neighborhoods on the city’s south and west sides.
More rallies may be planned to protest the closings if some of the schools aren’t taken off the list.
