Woman sues founder of Bikram yoga

The founder of the popular yoga practice known as Bikram, is being sued by a former student.

Bikram Choudhury, 67 started out by teaching yoga for free several decades ago. He is now a millionaire with hundreds of franchises on six continents.

A female student claims he sexually harassed her when she was training with him in 2005, when she was 20 years old.

The student says he would inappropriately touch her and hint at having a relationship. She claims he also told her they had a past life together, and reportedly asked her what they should do about it.

Bikram developed a particular type of yoga that’s performed in a room heated to 105 degrees, involving a series of non-stop poses.

A Chicago Bikram studio owner dismisses the claim of harassment, saying in this country anyone can sue anyone and Bikram is very rich.

In India 105 degF or 40 degC is very common temperature during day on many days and people have been doing their Yoga in these conditions for thousands of years. It is not a new method or theory developed by Bikram Choudhary that he should have been granted a patent. He has made money by making people fool. Yoga, Pranayam and Meditation are ancient Indian methods being practiced since 5000 years. It is a tradition and nobody should be granted patent for them.

2005 and waiting till now? Sounds like someone looking for some money for nothing at this point. If she waited till just now to report it.. that's just b.s.

You all may feel different if this was your sister, mother, wife or girlfriend. These responses are typical of a rape culture in which societal norms, prevailing attitudes and media normalize, tolerate and even condone sexual assault and in which focus & responsibility is taken off the perpetrator. Victims are shamed, blamed, and silenced because of this kind of thinking, which has no place in today's society.
