The calendar may say we are getting closer to spring, but the weather is telling us another story.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 11 a.m. for most of northeast Illinois and lakeside counties in northwest Indiana.
A wintry mix of snow, sleet and even freezing rain will spread across the region this morning and untreated areas may become slick and hazardous.
By midday we should see the precipitation change to a mixture of rain and snow. Most areas should see only minor snow accumulations, but a couple inches of snow are possible near the Illinois/Wisconsin state line.
A few flurries or snow showers may linger tonight as colder air moves into Chicagoland.
Even with decreasing clouds Tuesday temperatures will struggle with highs expected in the low 30s.
The colder than average temperatures will continue through the weekend.
