A high school athlete who was paralyzed during football practice more than 13 years ago has died.
Rob Komosa suffered a devastating neck injury at Rolling Meadows high school in 1999.
He was paralyzed from the neck down and relied on a ventilator to breathe.
Komosa died at his home on Saturday night after suffering breathing complications.
In 2005, he received a $12.5 million settlement from the high school.
Komosa also helped raise money for other Chicago area athletes paralyzed through hockey and football injuries.
A wake for Komosa is planned for 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Gleuckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights. His funeral will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St Thomas Becket.

Why did he get money from the school? These kids and parents know how dangers playing full-contact sports is. I'm sorry he died.

I suppose his family received a settlement to provide quality 24 hr. care for him, which isn't inexpensive. Very tragic to be so young and to suffer that type of injury. My condolences to his family and friends.
