Must-have apps for St. Patrick’s Day

Full disclosure: I’m not Irish. But I DO like St. Patrick’s Day: Watching the Chicago River turn green, hearing jokes about pots of gold and leprechauns, and eating delicious Irish fare (Corned beef is OK but a soda bread is by far my favorite!)

Whether your celebrating in the city or hanging out at home, these apps can help make your St. Patrick’s Day a little more fun.

Woogie

My Pomeranian Woogie a la Leprechaun.

SceneTap

Free for iOs and Android (They have a desktop site, too!)

When you’re not sure what bar to go to on St. Patrick’s Day, you can use SceneTap to guide your decision. SceneTap tells you how full a bar is, its male to female ratio, and the average age of the people there IN REAL TIME! It also tells you the atomsphere of different bars as is as well as if the bar has specials.

Did I mention that this app was created by 2 Chicago guys? Makes it even better!

Untappd

Free for iOs and Android

Untapped is basically a social networking site for people enjoy drinking beer. You can track and rate the beers you’ve tried, and share it with your friends in the app. Based on what beers you like, the app will also recommend other beers for you to try.

Pet Holidays

Free for iOs and Android

Use this app to virtually dress up your pet for St. Patrick’s Day — see how the app works on my dog in the picture above! The app also features accessories for other holidays like Christmas and Easter. One word of warning: You do have to pay for some of the accessories within the app. I had to pay 99 cents for the St. Patrick’s Day accessories. But in my opinion, it was totally worth it!

Leprechaun Me

$2.99 for iOs and Android

Similar to “Pet Holidays,” you can upload a photo of your spouse, cat or baby into the app and turn him or her into a Leprechaun. The app boasts more than 120 add-ons. It’s easy to use but expensive! But if you plan on using the app a lot over St. Patrick’s Day, it’s definitely worth a download.
