Jury selection is expected to continue Wednesday in the federal tax evasion trial of Cook County Commissioner William Beavers.
Beavers is accused of failing to pay income taxes on tens of thousands of dollars in campaign funds he spent for personal expenses.
Tuesday, his defense team was outraged that there were no black men in the pool of 50 potential jurors for the trial.
Judge James Zagel denied a defense request to dismiss the jury pool, and told defense attorneys and prosecutors to check with the US Clerk’s office about the random selection process.
