A state lawmaker wants to ban the sale of lion meat in Illinois.
Chicago Democrat Luis Arroyo is sponsoring The Lion Meat Act.
Arroyo claims he knows of at least two places in Illinois which sell lion meat but declined to name them.
The proposed law would make it illegal to slaughter lions or sell their meat. Violators could face up to one year in jail and a 2$,500 fine.
It’s legal to sell lion meat in the United States, but the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is reviewing that position.
