Jury selection begins tomorrow in the tax evasion trial of Cook County Commissioner William Beavers.
Beavers is accused of taking $226,000 dollars from campaign funds he controlled and spending some of it on personal expenses without paying income taxes on the money.
He’s also charged with failing to pay taxes on nearly $69,000 dollars in campaign contributions he placed in a retirement fund, in order to more than double his monthly pension.
Beavers’ defense team argues that he amended his tax returns to reflect spending the campaign funds.
