The CTA is holding a public hearing Monday night to talk about another fare hike.
The agency has proposed raising the price of a train ride 75 cents, to $3 a trip.
The increase would affect people who use single ride cards instead of the new Ventra cards that are being phased into the system.
The Ventra cards will cost you $5, unless you go online and set up an account that allows you to prepay your fares with a credit card.
Bus riders who pay cash won’t have to pay extra.
Monday’s meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at CTA headquarters, 567 W. Lake street.

Really? My guess would be, it would scare away the occasional user that doesn't have a need to own a pay card, and in the process add to congestion on the roads and with parking, this would be nothing more than a penalty for using cash and to rip of Chicago & suburban users by making them needlessly tie up money in a stupid card they may use once of twice, just to lose that money when the CTA gets a bug in there butts to change cards again. Over the years the CTA has done a great job of moving customers away and it's not changing..

Are you kidding me ?!? Rahm promised no fare hike on cash users and this stupid Ventra machine is mandatory to be used by everyone ???? I’ve gotta move ASAP!
Brother Max
You mean the CTA 's board president.. as much as Rahm stinks at his job, lets blame the right person here.. Forrest Claypool

I think that King Rahm appointed Claypool – – And whatever the King wants – the King will get. And as far as a public hearing — that's just posturing – so people will think that they have input. The decision is made – – and after the so-called public "hearing" – – the powers that be will go out and have a big expensive dinner on the backs of the citizens of Chicago and the CTA! And laugh about the pople thinking that their feelings matter – – SAD!
GUCCI
I agree with you.. I'm moving ASAP..
Brother Max
You see how they lie to us, when the fare increase was proposed for the passes it was all "don't worry the cash fare will remain the same".. not even surprised, but am disappointed to even imagine it..!! I guess the sale of the passes slumped that much Huh..!?!?
The Mongo
Umm it is quite simple.
Go to the new card so we can save money on paper and printing.
And they get there money faster and can cut some pickup money getters.
Also good for tracking you if a cop finds a card on you and checks your routes.
DING DING DING DING WIN for CTA lose for people who just use cash
SPIKE KING
NO WAY!!! I WANT TO NO WHERE IS ALL THE MONEY GOING??? NO HIKE ON ANY THING TILL KING RAHM & HIS APPOINTED SESPOOL CLAYPOOL WE DEMAND TO NO WHERE ALL THE MONEY GOES EACH AND EVERY PENNEY $$ ALL OF IT……
Blunt
why don't they stop probing us & charge the $10.00 they really want to charge for one way. at some point the people who lived through the years dealing with the old & new now we gonna charge more money good luck the people that can afford it could care less for this cold city that's why Charlie Chapman left this dump.

The reason they can keep raising prices is because nobody wants to speak up. If communities stop killing and hurting each other and change their way they can put a stop to it. Who are we? We are paying customers that have work, school, kids, etc. we have a say we just chose to accept.
Oralia
What is the point of having a public hearing? The new machines are up & ready. They even have them in the buses.
Cash Payer
The CTA is a public, federally funded system and Claypool/Emanuel are FORCING us to set up an account with a PRIVATE vendor. RIDICULOUS. I would rather ride my bike to work than to give CTA one more quarter (or 3) to have the opportunity to use my ChicagoCard. When will the politicians wake up and realize that there are lots of people in this city who CHOOSE to pay by cash instead of the incessant addiction to plastic. GET A LIFE RAHM.
No Liberal Democrats
Expect more of the same from Liberal Democrats. Folks, when you continuously elect Liberal Democrats, you can't complain about them raising fares, taxes, etc.
