A top administrator at Northern Illinois University is now on paid leave after a raid on the University Police Department this past week.
The FBI and Illinois State Police copied computer drives and took paper files from the campus police station on Wednesday.
The Chicago Tribune reports Eddie Williams, the school’s executive vice president and chief of finance was placed on leave, but will continue to receive his $303,000 a year salary.
Federal housing officials wanted records from Eden’s Gardens, a subsidized housing development owned by Williams. It is not affiliated with the school.
Investigators want to know if information from the state’s law enforcement database, which NIU had access to, was used for background checks to weed-out rental applicants.
No comments from Williams for the Chicago Tribune but his attorney says he is cooperating with investigators.
Dr. Steven Cunningham, vice president of administration and human resource services, will serve as NIU’s acting executive vice president in Williams’s place.
