St. Patrick’s Day is just over a week away and there’s a big effort underway to have Chicago named the “U.S. Headquarters” for St. Patrick’s Day.
There is no such title now, but a group of Irish Chicagoans who call themselves “ShamROCK Chicago” are collecting signatures on a petition and they plan to present it to Aidan Cronin, the Consul General of Ireland in Chicago on Monday.
Ireland has made no promises to grant the title to Chicago, but Cronin has said he will accept the petition and organizers say it doesn’t hurt to ask.

St. Patrick’s Day is March 17th.
The City of Chicago’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and dying of the Chicago river will take place March 16th.
