U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk are co-sponsoring a gun trafficking bill that contains a section named for slain Chicago teen Hadiya Pendleton.
The teen’s mother Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton talked about the new bill.
Under the proposal, anyone who buys a gun legally, then gives it to someone who can’t buy a gun legally, would be guilty of a federal crime.
Currently, straw gun purchasers can be convicted of only minor paperwork violations.
