Chicago may expand its registry for gun crime offenders.
Alderman Ed Burke has been leading the effort to require convicted criminals who used guns illegally, to register with the police department.
There are currently 584 names on the list, and they are posted online.
On Thursday, a city council committee endorsed a proposal to widen the registry to include anyone who commits a violent crime with a gun.
The full city council must vote on the measure.
