Parishioners at a small church in northern Italy were shocked Sunday when their priest pulled out a picture of former Pope Benedict and set it on fire.
It happened in the town of Liguria; the local mayor tackled the priest and took the picture away from him.
Father Andrea Maggi claims Benedict deserted the church by retiring; he said a shepherd shouldn’t abandon his flock.
The local bishop says he’s mortified by Father Maggi’s behavior.
