Chicago celebrated its 176th birthday Tuesday. And since that number of candles posed a fire hazard, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel sang “Happy Birthday” with an unlit cake.

Today’s celebration at the Chicago History Museum included local musical talent and a tribute to Chicago’s first permanent resident: Jean Baptist Pointe Dusable.
