Illinois House approves statewide ban on cell phones while driving
The Illinois House approved a measure to ban cell phones while driving.
The bill passed Friday, and now moves on to the Senate.
If approved, drivers would be forced to use hands-free devices or speakerphone for calls.
Police would also be able to stop and ticket drivers holding a cell phone, except during emergency situations.
76 Illinois communities, including Chicago, already ban talking on phones and driving.
It’s illegal in all of Illinois to text and drive.
