Illinois House committee OKs gay marriage

Gay marriage in Illinois has cleared a House committee by a 6-5 vote.

It will now move to a full House vote, where it could meet its strongest opposition.

The measure would allow marriage between two people, instead of just between a man and a woman.

The Senate has already passed it.

Governor Quinn says he plans to sign it into law.

Illinois would then become the 10th state to allow gay marriage.

It is Civil Rights. Black men weren't allowed to vote until 1870, all women weren't allowed to voted until 1920, anti-miscegenation laws didn't allow blacks and whites in most states to marry until the repeal in 1967(THAT WAS ONLY 45 YEARS AGO). At each instants their were a lot of people that thought these all were "morally" wrong. Now we look back and say, "Why in the heck would have anyone thought is was morally wrong for black men to vote or for women to vote, why could a black person not marry a white person"? Luckily, kids born today don't see anything wrong with any of these things, unless their parents teach them "hate" is ok. So if it is so morally wrong for you, why would you even worry about it? Are you afraid they are going to make you marry someone of the same sex? The worse thing that could happen to you is two guys get married and move into the house next door, sorry proven fact, real-estate values go up when the gays move in. Their thing is kind of fixing up neighborhoods. Look at Boystown in Chicago, The Village in New York and Castro in San Fran, all ghetto hoods, gays moved in and fixed up, then the yuppies took over and the gays moved on.
So the only absolute disgrace is close minded people. We are taught history, so we don't repeat our mistakes of the past. Most people get that, but their are people who feel like this situation or their situation is different. Gay Marriage will happen…. or marriage for all people and kids born 20 years from now will look back and ask "What in the heck were those people problems".
Of coarse, as my Grandmother always said, "The wheel that squeaks the most wants the most oil". So as we have learned from our politicians that squeak the loudest, they are always the ones getting caught in bathroom stalls, hiring a hooker or on some websites they shouldn't be. So you keep on squeaking, maybe you are just looking for a little oil!

It's not about civil rights. It's about a bunch of gays trying to push their beliefs on society because they think we should believe in what they are and do. You chose to be gay now deal with it and keep society out of it.

And by invoking your religion you are not pushing those beliefs on other people? Complete idiocy.

Get it right. They are trying to invoke their beliefs on my religion. You knew at the get-go that same sex couples cannot get married. Now don't try and make a crusade because you think we should accept it. Another minority trying to force themselves on the majority. They can all go and kiss my ass.

I completely agree. 20 years from now, people will think how horrible and close-minded people were to oppose equal rights for people just because of who they love. The Illinois House now has the opportunity to be on the right side of history and be remembered as a State who championed equality for ALL citizens.

one second after they approve gay 'marraige', people will think, 'those gays got their way by bully tactics plus a country-wide smear campaign to label people who don't agree with them as 'hateful'. For that, I think gay people are the real hate-filled ones.

No different than any other minority. When you don't get your way you scream racist or invoke a hate crime law.
