Election Day: Races in IL 2nd District & Cicero
It’s election day for voters in Illinois 2nd Congressional District and in Southwest suburban Cicero.
Incumbent Larry Dominick is vying for a third term.
Dominick has been accused of corruption and nepotism. In the campaign for this race, Dominick has been accused of voter intimidation and fraud. He has denied those claims.
Dominick’s challengers include Juan Ochoa and Joe Pontarelli.
Pontarelli is Cicero’s former senior services director.
Ochoa is the former chief executive of the government agency that runs McCormick Place.
Ochoa tried to get Dominick thrown off the ballot because he hasn’t paid fees on his private business. Ochoa also claimed Dominick did not get proper work permits for some home repairs.
If there is no clear winner today, a run-off election will be held in April between the top two candidates.
