Woman dies in accident on Eisenhower

A morning accident on the eastbound Eisenhower Expressway left a 29-year-old woman dead and three other people seriously injured and shut down the roadway for investigation of the accident, officials said.

According to Illinois State Police Trooper Brian Walker, the accident happened about 5:47 a.m. on the eastbound Eisenhower (I-290) at Kostner Avenue. He said that the accident involved two vehicles but had no details on what caused the accident, saying that would have to wait until reports come in from state police officials who will reconstruct the accident.

The road was closed during the investigation but all lanes have since been reopened, police said.

According to Chicago Fire Media, one person, a woman, was dead on the scene, and three people were transported in serious-to-critical condition, two to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and the third to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Fire media said that the dead woman was taken to Stroger before being taken to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The woman, who was from Carol Stream, was not identified pending notification of the woman’s family, according to the medical examiner’s office

No other details were immediately available.

Anyone think that alcohol may have had a hand in this???I have to say: Smoking is SO condemmed – people are banned – Yet can anyone tell me ONE case of a people being killed in a car accident as a result of smoking? And how about alcohol??? Just askin'…..

I agree. Driving buzzed is one of the major causes of vehicular crashes. It is also the top killer of teens behind the wheel. However, human error such as speeding, distracted driving, negligence, and poor decision-making also are huge factors. Driving is a serious business and irresponsible driving can cause loss of properties and lives. There far too many drivers on our roads unworthy of driving priviledges. Our current system is not working because it is so damn easy and cheap to get a driver's license that most are just taking it for granted. Our legislators should change the system and make it harder, longer and more expensive to get one. Driving is a priviledge, not a right.

John – I couldn't agree with you more! Well, except the "more expensive" part. People with more money tend to be the biggest jagoffs on the road. They are the ones who drive like crap, weaving around others, not using turn signals, speeding, tailgating…
The think they can simply *buy* themselves out of tickets.
BTW – it also makes you sound like a republican.

I don't associate myself with the Republicans or Democrats because they are both political animals who act on their political instincts. I feel sorry for the people because they are stuck with these two worthless factions.
I am merely expressing my opinion based on my principles and observation.

What are you talking about? Hundreds of thousands died to fumbling with lighter or dropping there or a ash burning in the car as well as drunk drivers. I WILL BET THE HOUSE THEY HAD NO SEATBELTS ON.

    Speeding
    Alcohol/drugs
    Driving skills
If she was a passenger, the driver should automatically have to do jail time and have a felony conviction. If every case, if drivers start realizing that their passenger safety is their responsibility, there would be many less crashes. If the driver was drunk, the jail time would triple.

@ Brian and Kirby1414: shut your pie hole! Until you have the facts don't assume anything. Be thankful it wasn't one of your family members. @ E Baby: thanks for the update.

Before everyone jumps the gun here, suvs do rollover easily and maybe they were simply not wearing seatbelts. The suv was not in that bad of shape as i seen.
