Police: Man fatally stabbed ex-girlfriend and her mother; set fire to cover up scene
Chicago Police officers say a man they arrested during a disturbance call Friday admitted to murder. They were called to Thadeus Ridley’s appartment in the 2300 block of East 70th Street in Chicago for a fight and Ridley reportedly said “I murdered someone.”
Ridley is now charged with the deaths of Curtria Duncan, 24, and her mother Cherie Adams, 43, who were founded last Wednesday inside Adams’ burning apartment in the 8100 block of South Maryland Avenue.
Ridley allegedly stabbed Adams more than 60 times in her torso and head, struck her and tried to rip out her vocal cords, according to Cook County court records. He also allegedly stabbed Duncan in her neck twice, smothered her face and then put her body in the bathtub. Investigators say Duncan is Ridley’s ex-girlfriend.
Prosecutors say Ridley set fire to the apartment to hide the murder scene and then he took a bus home to his apartment.
Ridley is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated arson. He was ordered held without bond Saturday. His next court date is scheduled for Monday.
