Police arrested 19 people after a melee broke out at the Ford City Mall Saturday afternoon.
The incident happened shortly before 5 p.m. at the mall at 7601 S. Cicero Ave.
“A rap group was playing there and a large group of teens got out of hand,’’ said Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
Other reports say a rap group was there to sign autographs, for an audience of mostly mothers with young daughters.
Witnesses say a group of teens suddenly started running through the mall, yelling, breaking things and spilling out into the parking lot. One witness says some of the teens were hitting cars, breaking off side mirrors and even one windshield.
A CTA bus driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital. A teen was also hurt, and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, in good condition.
About 50 police squad cars assigned to multiple South Side districts, including Chicago Lawn, Englewood and Deering, and a helicopter responded to the scene. Security guards shut down the mall following the incident. A
According to the Ford City Mall website, members of the teen band Mindless Behavior appeared at the mall food court from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to promote their new release, “All Around the World.”

Why would anyone go anywhere there are mostly black folks? It happens time and time again some kind of disturbance, fight, stealing or someone is killed. It's pathetic, they see nothing wrong with that type of behavior, it seems to fun and part of their "culture". All you have to do is look at the crime infested areas that are predominately black. Who wants to live like that and around that? You can't even go to the lake front from 31st to 52nd st because there fights and disturbances all summer in those areas. My sister took her grandkids to see this group, they put the group in an empty store in the food court by the restrooms, then they were charging $20.00 per child to meet them and get a poster and their cd. Kids were pusing so they could even see them. Many throught they would sing, and they did not many of the kids did not have the money and some got upset about this. The group's next stop was at Chicago Ridge Mall where they would sing. None of this was reported by the news.

I've lived in the Ford City neighborhood since the early 90's, and i'll be the first to say that it has change over the past decade. Wish i can say it has been all good change but obviously it's not. When it comes to gang banging m*tha f*ckers i can honestly say it has been moslty of my ethncity (hispanic/mexican) who have been doing the graffiti and all the other bullshit that comes with banging. I believe with some guidence and hard work, most of my folks can change for the best. On the other hand, when it comes to these ignorant, hard headed, ghetto, loud, obnoxious "african-americans" and their "i don't give a f*ck mentality", there is little to no hope for these pieces of shit. These children were unsupervised and out of control, while the mall security was previously ill- equipped in light of the singing/dancing group. Personally I have never heard of this group or have any desire to visit a vestige of America's days of prominence in a decaying community with limited social and educational outlets and alternatives. This is Chicago: where all taxpayers and U.S. Citizens have a legal right to visit, congregate, etc… However, it is disappointing that the crowd was unable to truly support the group, financially or with another form of appreciation. But poor socio- economic conditions, inattentive parents and … helps people like these children cuff them selves.
