The teenage woman who was murdered in North Chicago is remembered at a funeral service Friday.
Janay McFarlane was shot and killed on the 1300 block of Jackson Avenue on February 15th. 21 year-old Jim McPherson is charged with her death.
Investigators say there was a verbal confrontation in a liquor store between McPherson and McFarlane’s group of friends before the shooting.
After the shots were fired, witnesses helped guide police to the home where McPherson was hiding. He’s being held in jail on $3 million bond.
McFarlane was killed the day after her sister attended President Obama’s speech about gun violence at Hyde Park Academy.
McFarlane was honored at True Vine Missionary Baptist at 67th and Stewart in Chicago.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson met McFarlane’s family at the church to lend support and add to the focus on gun violence.
