Visitation services are being held today for Janay McFarlane, the teenage girl shot to death in North Chicago last week.
Jim McPherson, 21, is charged with the murder and is being held on $3-million bond.
Investigators say there was an incident near a liquor store between McPherson and the people who were with McFarlane, and that led to the shooting.
On the WGN Morning News, Janay’s father said he moved his family to North Chicago to escape violence on the South Side.
He described his daughter as being very out-going.
Herb McFarlane says he would like to start an organization to speak out about gun violence and gangs.
Janay’s visitation is Friday at 4 p.m. at Gatling’s Chapel on South Halsted.
Her funeral is Friday at noon at the Tru Vine Missionary Baptist Church on South Stewart Avenue.
