Google Glass: Will 2013 be the year of the wearable computer?
On tonight’s WGN News, we’re talking about Google Glass – the augmented reality glasses the company is planning to release in just a few months. Well, for 8,000 lucky souls chosen to become “Google Glass Explorers,” at least. Oh, and you’ll need to pay the full $1,500 to buy a pair.
The company is taking applications through February 27th and they’ll be contacting people in March. You can find more information about how to apply at Google.com/Glass.
On tonight’s News at Five, we’ll be talking about other types of “wearable technology” that’s currently available or potentially coming soon. They include…
- The rumored Apple iWatch. Is the company developing a new smart watch that you can talk to using Siri?
- The Pebble Smartwatch was one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns ever. The company raised $10 million and customers pre-ordered 85,000 units. You can read more about it and purchase one here (they just started shipping to early buyers).
So what do you think? Will the Google Glass take off and replace our smartphones? Or will they just become another novelty item? One thing’s for sure – I can’t wait to get my hands on a pair.
