Over 50 untested sexual assaults kits have been discovered in an evidence room at the Robbins Police Dept.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Dept recently discovered the 51 kits dating from 1986 to 2011, according to a statement from the department.
The statement says the department is currently working on getting the kits tested.
Sheriff Tom Dart along with local officials held a meeting tonight and attempted to reassure those living in Robbins that crime is being taken seriously and that they don’t need to live in fear.
A lot of questions remain, though, from people like Wanda Hampton, whose son Dwayne Robinson was shot and killed in Robbins just over a year ago.
“I lost my 21-year-old son in front of my house in February 2012 and still nobody’s arrested for it,” she said.
“We don’t have all the answers,” Dart said. “But there’s some things we definitely know that we can take care of pretty quickly.”
Along with untested rape kits and unsolved murders, residents also wanted to talk to police about a string of burglaries in the area and what they consider a spike in youth crime.
Police promise to work with their citizens to make this place safer.

This is really discouraging and upsetting that such an important issue is being taken so lightly! The victims do not deserve that.

Gross neglect of duty here. Everyone in that police department should be fired. What the heck are the taxpayers paying them for? To sit around and scratch their nuts?

….and pull their pants up by their belt buckles. A real show of force when talking to women. I don't think I've ever asked an officer a question without this being the first response. Why is that?

"We cannot attend all 911 calls because we are focusing on major crimes"."Try to work things out yourselves while we conduct some REAL POLICE WORK".

and what's unfortunate ..is the victims are paying dearly, nobody did anything except.. ROBBINS (robbers) PD..took tax payers hard earned money and did nothing for them..where's the justice???? the tax paying people of ROBBINS should sue all your asses. I am sorry to all the victims …hopefully some justice can be served.

@Mimi: The tax payers of Robbins don't have the MONEY to sue their village…the State's Attorney's office should start an investigation.
@Larry T Robot: We all know CPD is a perfect department. Signed, Ron Burge & Anthony Abbate

I'm pretty sure Abbate would have no difficulty running Robbins Police Department.
