The Food and Drug Administration is warning the public about fake dietary supplements that have been promoted over the Internet as treatments for flu.
The FDA’s national health fraud coordinator says unapproved antiviral products could be contaminated or counterfeit, or could contain the wrong medications.
He says the agency has tested products purported to be Tamiflu and found acetaminophen alone, or penicillin derivatives.
Since last month, the agency has sent out 10 warning letters to companies that sell these drugs online.
