Thousands miss out on Illinois tax credit
While many Illinois families are working on filing their state income taxes, Governor Pat Quinn says thousands are not taking advantage of a major tax break.
Volunteers with the Center for Economic Progress gave low-income taxpayers free advice at Truman College Saturday.
The governor stopped by, urging people to check if they’re eligible for the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit.
He said 10 to 20 percent of eligible families miss out on a credit that could be worth thousands of dollars.
The Center for Economic Progress will provide free tax help through April 15th at three locations in the city:
Truman College, the North Side Credit Union at 1011 W. Lawrence Ave., and the Loyola Park Field House at 1230 W. Greenleaf Ave.
