There is a greater risk for substance abuse among young people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
The Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry reveals a high prevalence of drug and alcohol abuse and cigarette use among ADHD patients compared to their counterparts who are not living with ADHD.
By age 15, 35 percent of those with ADHD reported using one or more substances.
Whether or not adolescents with ADHD were being treated for their disorder or not, did not affect substance abuse rates.
