A new study says counseling is the best choice to help children traumatized by tragedies.
For children and teenagers affected by traumatic events like the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, the study finds interventions incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy had the best evidence of benefits for those with or without symptoms.
The study also found no medications showed benefit after trauma from accidents, natural or man-made disasters, war, or other events not related to child abuse or domestic violence.
