Help for Lesbian, Gay and Transgenger Youth

Chicago is now home to one of the only gender identity clinics in the country.

Lurie Children’s Memorial Hospital has opened a new facility that’s the first program in the Midwest specially designed to help kids and teenagers who are gay, lesbian or transgender.

Dr. Rob Garofalo, who heads up the new center, is a physician in adolescent medicine and an Associate Professor at Northwestern University’s Weinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Garofalo promotes outreach and educational strategies to reach lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth and young adults.

From HIV prevention strategies and services to counseling for families struggling with transgender identity, the new center offers free consultations to walk-in visitors in a safe and private setting.

There are similar clinics in Boston and Los Angeles.

Wished there were such clinics when I was a teen. I thought back then (1970s) that I was a freak and the only transgender person. Hope the best for those who are following me.

Justlike some people are born with attractions to the same rather then opposite sex…………

Some people are born with the body of one sex but have a totally deep down mental makeup that they are realy the opposite sex. I know about 6 trans people well enough to discuss their issues. All but one of them were suicidal. Now they have transitioned they are happy.

Why are you so unhappy at something that if you cant feel empathy for them, you could at least keep quiet and do something else rather then give insults

Do they really have to this? The are so many real problems here such as unemployment, high taxes, and pensions. Our legislators are becoming over sensitive to gay lobbyists who push they selfish and crooked ideas.

YOu'd sing a different tune if you were gay or trans. The "other things to do is clap trap" = the latest droppings of the cow of discrimination and yes hatred – of things you dont understand.

FYI Children's is a privately funded hospital so no legislators were a part of this. Also problems such as high unemployment are solved when private companies open new offices like this. Maybe you should do a little research before you start complaining.
