Hadiya Pendelton, 15, was shot in the back and killed Tuesday. Just last week she performed in Washington with her classmates for the inauguration of President Obama.

With still two days left in the month, there have already been 42 homicides in Chicago.

That’s the most since January of 2002.

Three people were shot and killed Tuesday, including a 15-year-old girl who was only blocks away from school.

Hadiya Pendelton was at a park on 45th and South Oakenwald Avenue with friends when someone ran up to the group and opened fire.

Hadiya was shot in the back.

She was three blocks from King College Prep School where she was a sophomore.

Just last week Hadiya performed in Washington with her classmates at a presidential inauguration event.

A 17-year-old boy was also wounded in that shooting.

No arrests have been made.

Great that McCarthy has a plan for CPD…..always talking about strategies…..what exactly are they, because they sure aren't working….also, where is the parenting that tells the non-gangbangers NOT to hang with the gangbangers??????

As a drug and alcohol counselor in Lake County, I'd like to ask why we're not looking as hard at the alcohol and drug EPIDEMIC we're experiencing here in Illinois. Has anyone taken the time to look at the government issued stats between alcohol related deaths vs. gun related deaths? I guess political platforms have no room for alcohol related issues.
I find it troubling that if a handful of people die due to influenza the headlines read, "OUTBEAK," yet multitudes of people die everyday from alcohol and drug related deaths and we hear not a word. Sick. Just weighing in…

There is not a solution to evil. It exists and will always exist. What we can do is teach our children the difference of good and evil. Stop pretending that God doesn't matter and hopefully reduce the amount of children growing up without morals. We can also ensure the 2nd amendment and allow people to have the right to defend themselves. Criminals will always break the law. Making laws against weapons is only effective to stop law abiding citizens.
