Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle made a surprise endorsement today backing democratic State Senator Toi Hutchinson to fill Jesse Jackson Jr’s congressional seat.
It’s a surprise because she chose not to back a former top aide Robin Kelly, who’s also running.
Preckwinkle made the decision because she says polling indicates Hutchinson is more electable.
There are 17 democrats vying for the second congressional seat in February’s primary.
