The deadline has been extended to Monday for submitting applications to replace Sandi Jackson as 7th-ward Alderman.
Mayor Emanuel’s office has already received 42 submissions for the job. The deadline was extended to 5 p.m. Monday after the city’s web site experienced “some technical difficulties” and was offline for a “brief period of time”, said mayoral spokesman Tom Alexander.
Mayor Emanuel will pick Jackson’s successor after a four-person panel checks out the candidates and gives him a list of finalists. He hopes to name Jackson’s replacement by February.
Ald. Jackson was nearly two years into her second term when she resigned. Her resignation came after her husband, Jesse Jackson Jr. stepped down as congressman due to treatment for bipolar disorder– and a federal investigation hanging over him.
