Doctors and researchers are working with NFL players in furthering the diagnosis and treatments for brain injuries.

WGN’s Dina Bair explains how using living subjects advances the research of CTE, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which was once only revealed after death in an autopsy.

The ultimate goal for these researchers is to scan current players and if they see signs of CTE, limit exposure, offer a treatment and reverse the course of the condition. In the absence of treatment – neurosurgeons are trying to change the game and limit head hits – they have already started in the youth leagues.
